The Gospel According To Les Miserables by Selena Sarns, Book review

 Publisher: TheBiblePeople.com (February 11, 2013)
ISBN-13: 978-0615769394

Synopsis:

Few stories have captured readers hearts like Les Miserables. Popular as a book, musical, and movie, the story contrast complicated characters and themes. Though audiences have enjoyed this timeless work by Victor Hugo, the Christian themes are often missed.
This 30 day devotional book points out some of the many Christian themes within the story of Les Miserables, connects them to timeless truths found in the Bible, and offers challenges for all of us.

Written from a conservative, evangelical Christian perspective, the 30 devotional readings in The Gospel According to Les Miserables will challenge readers to learn biblical lessons from favorite characters like Valjean, Javier, Marius, Fantine, and many others.

Here are my thoughts:

Few stories have captured the darkness and the undisputed beauty of humanity as 'Les Miserables' have done: be you rich, poor, young, old, each one of us faces countless trials and temptations. Victor Hugo's magnificent novel in truth compelled society to see herself in the harsh reality of life! Not many of our fellowmen sees themselves as they truly are!

In 'The Gospel According To Les Miserables' Selena Sarns uses both the Old and the New Testaments and compares them to the well known characters and themes of this splendid story to create 30 devotions to inspire faith in all of us.

Each simple devotion provides a measure of hope in difficult and troubling situations in daily lives, the heading of each reading referring to a particular chapter and verse of God's word and reflecting a particular connection to a specific character or momentum in the original story.
Easy to read each devotion is only 2 pages long, and ends with a meaningful quote i.e.: "It can not be said enough that forgiveness is one of the most important intangibles in the life of a Christian."

A good addition to your family/church library but perhaps missing a discussion guide to make it complete.

4 Stars.
