Wings Of A Dream, Book review

Book description:

Rebekah Hendricks dreams of a life far beyond her family's farm in Oklahoma, and when dashing aviator Arthur Samson promised adventure in the big city, she is quick to believe he's the man she's meant to marry. While she waits for the Great War to end and Arthur to return to her so they can pursue all their plans, her mother's sister falls ill. Rebekah seizes the opportunity to travel to Texas to care for Aunt Adabelle, seeing this chance to be closer to Arthur's training camp as God's approval of her plans.

But the Spanish flue epidemic changes everything. Faced with her aunt's death, Arthur's indecisiveness, and four children who have no one else to care for them, Rebeka is torn between the desire to escape the type of life she's always led and the unexpected love that just might change the dream of her heart.

My review:

A delightful historical novel and one of the best Christian fiction I have read in a while!
Anne Mateer's faith shines throughout this story and I am certain to be on the lookout for more of her work!

'Wings of a dream' is reminiscent of Lucy Maud Montgomery, Catherine Marshall or Louisa May Alcott's style and you will feel a kindred spirit with the main character Rebekah Hendricks!

WWI home front life in Texas with its shortages, the Spanish Lady (flu) epidemic as well as casualty reports are just one of the many descriptions you will find in Anne Mateer's novel!

A true Christian story, this warmhearted tale of a nineteen year old faced with challenges few would not find daunting, 'Wings of a dream' is certain to delight readers! Not unlike a good recipe, this story has all the right ingredients but it is Anne Mateer's harmonious blend with the Great War's background that has you turning 'just one more page!'
A dreamer like many of us, Rebekah desires adventure and yet, faced with unexpected love she discovers God always leads the way! You will find yourself holding your breath towards the end I guarantee!

I so enjoyed reading 'Wings of a dream' that I too had a hard time to put it down! Enjoy!

I will gladly give it 5 stars!
